Eric Reed is principal cellist of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera and cellist of the CSO String Quintet. He is a native of Atlanta and began performing with CSO in 1976. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Houston with additional studies at the Kodaly Institute of America, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and New England Conservatory of Music.
Reed has performed with the Texas Opera Theatre, the Texas Chamber Orchestra, the Houston Grand Opera, the Atlanta Lyric Opera, Huntsville Symphony, and Savannah Symphony, as well as Principal Cellist of the Atlanta Ballet. He was one of 12 cellists worldwide selected for the Piatigorsky Seminar in 1985. He has also participated in master classes with Lynn Harrell, Bernard Greenhouse, Stephen Kates, Nathaniel Rose, Raya Garbusova, Leonard Rose, Zara Nelsova, Laurence Lesser, and David Wells. His principal teachers were Hans Jorgen Jensen, Ronald Feldman, Martha Gershefski, James Stroud, and David Tomatz.
