Betty Spencer trained on the piano with Harold Cadek, former Director of Cadek Music Conservatory, from age 6. She first studied harp at Baylor University with Mary Katherine Alexander and received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Chattanooga in 1955, where she studied with Ann Grayson Smith. She was a member of the Chattanooga Symphony from 1960 to 1969 and has been a faculty member at Cadek since 1960. She has continued her studies with Rosemary Hinman and Marjorie Tyre and participated with the UTC Orchestra, Symphony of Praise Orchestra, and various ensembles for special occasions. Spencer freelances as a solo harpist for special events, and her styles include classical, pop, folk, and Latin, with or without amplification, indoors or outdoors, and pedal or lever harp.
