Andrea Tierney

In addition to teaching piano at Cadek, Andrea Shepherd Tierney is the organist at the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul, where she plays one of Chattanooga’s oldest pipe organs and assists in teaching children and adults how to sing Gregorian chant. Tierney, a teacher with more than 30 years' experience and extensive Suzuki training, enjoys working with students as young as 4 years old through senior adults. In addition to her bachelor’s of music in piano performance, she completed a graduate certificate in injury-preventive keyboard technique from Salem College in North Carolina. She is a member of the Performing Arts Medicine Association, where she completed the essentials of performing arts medicine course for arts educators. She is a current member and past board member of both the American Guild of Organists, Chattanooga Chapter, and Music Teachers National Association, Chattanooga. Tierney believes in an individualized approach to teaching based on students needs, abilities, and goals. She enjoys the challenge of creating a personalized, positive learning experience where every student knows that they have a teacher who respects them and believes in them.
