Julia Mayo—Piano, Recorder
Julia Mayo offers private lessons for piano and recorder at The Bright School, where she is a music teacher. Before joining The Bright School and most recently Cadek, Mayo taught music at North Hamilton County Elementary School for the last five years, and prior to that, she taught elementary music for four years in Hamblen County.
She is a certified Kodály instructor. Julia has experience teaching clarinet and piano and performing in choirs, marching band, and wind ensembles. She earned her bachelor’s degree in music education at Carson Newman University and her master’s in music education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Mayo believes music should first and foremost come from a place of joy!
“Students internalize the mechanics of musical theory through movement and musical play,” she says. “The Kodály method in the classroom puts great emphasis on singing and this transfers to the studio as well to help develop the tuneful ear and whole musician.”
Individual lessons with Mayo can be tailored to meet the student right where they are. Students can expect to play, sing, and move while learning the fundamentals of piano.
