Matt Evans—Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo, Folk Guitar

Matt Evans grew up in Chattanooga and then went to grad school in Knoxville, where he developed an interest in old-time music and began playing the banjo, fiddle, and guitar. After returning to Chattanooga, he began working with the great old-time Cumberland Plateau fiddler Bob Townsend. He has made numerous trips to West Virginia and eastern Kentucky to soak up and learn the traditional tunes and sounds of that region. Matt was a co-founder of the former Folk School of Chattanooga and taught there for years. He began teaching music in 2006 and offers lessons in clawhammer banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and ukulele. He is also a senior lecturer in English at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
